Organic Expression

Peg's Gallery

January 16, 2020 — March 24, 2020

Carol’s work is always organic, textured and dimensional. It speaks to the beauty of the world and the magic of complex shapes and materials. She is somewhat eclectic and works in a number of different series simultaneously and considers any media to be painting or sculpture and uses it accordingly. Over time, she moved from highly textured painting to fiber, enamel, and light as her most prevalent media, with the incorporation of many other media. Her larger work is installations where the viewer is inside the work. She thinks of these smaller works as sketches for the larger. For many years Carol was the designer for a laser light company where the lines could reach out across acres. To her, it is all highly environmental.

J Derek O'Brien's work

Primarily working with clay and metal, J. Derek O’Brien approaches each project with the intention to experiment. His hopes are to present clay and metal in a way that he hasn’t in the past; at times, working conceptually to let his ideas propel the project. Other times Derek works intuitively, allowing the materials and tools to dictate the outcome. This process allows his work to vary considerably. Some of the themes he works through are the relationships between humans and animals and man’s influence on nature. He also finds man made and natural objects that are of interest and manipulates them into something new.
