SUMMARY:Janice Lessman-Moss: Artist Talk - Walking & Weaving
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of art\, conversation\, and weaving featuring textile artist Janice Lessman-Moss…\nJoin us for an intimate and inspiring evening with celebrated textile artist Janice Lessman-Moss\, whose work is featured in ITERATIONS: Rhythm & Reason\, a group exhibit on view at Peg’s Gallery through January 31\, 2025. Presented alongside the work of Peter Christian Johnson and Brinsley Tyrrell\, the show explores the interplay of rhythm\, repetition\, and material intuition across sculpture\, ceramics\, and textile-based forms.    \nIn this special artist talk and live demonstration\, Lessman-Moss will share insights into her creative process\, from digital design to handweaving. She’ll reflect on her decades-spanning career and the evolution of her richly textured\, light-responsive compositions that integrate shiny wire and intricate woven patterns. Attendees will have the opportunity to touch sample textiles and observe a live demo on a small frame loom\, offering a rare\, tactile introduction to the artist’s techniques and material sensibilities.  \nKnown for her exploration of rhythmic pattern and the sculptural qualities of woven surfaces\, Lessman-Moss’s work bridges contemporary digital aesthetics\, centuries-old craft traditions\, and embodied practices. Don’t miss this engaging event with an acclaimed artist and educator whose work continues to shape the landscape of American fiber art.  \nThis event is free and open to the public.\nFree parking is available on city streets throughout the walkable downtown neighborhood of Hudson\, Ohio.  \nABOUT THE ARTIST:   \nJanice Lessman-Moss maintains a weaving studio in her home in Kent\, Ohio\, USA where she is Emeritus Professor at Kent State University. She was awarded a United States Artists Fellowship in 2019\, the Cleveland Arts Prize Lifetime Achievement Award\, the Governor’s Award for the Arts in Ohio\, an Arts Midwest/National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Crafts\, and nine Individual Artist Fellowships from the Ohio Arts Council throughout her career. Her work has been presented throughout the United States and internationally\, including a recent solo exhibition at the Kent State University Museum.    \nIn her art\, she embraces the unique vocabulary of digital design and its relation to the binary functioning of threads on the loom. Shiny metal wire is integrated into the woven compositions to enhance the richness of textural contrasts and engage the viewer in more active discovery. Traversing the space in front of the weavings reveals a play of light\, reflection\, and shadow within its low relief sculptural surface. She works with abstract systems in networks of interlocking shapes to create a dynamic topography expressive of her interest in Random Walk theory and the actual practice of walking; rhythmic movement all rooted in a matrix of circles and squares.   \n#ArtExhibit #GalleryEvent #ArtistTalk #Iterations #PeterChristianJohnson #JaniceLessmanMoss #BrinsleyTyrrell #Weaving

SUMMARY:Horsing Around! A Year of the Horse Open Studio
DESCRIPTION:Drop In Saturday\, January 17 | 12 PM – 3 PM \nChinese New Year\, or Lunar New Year\, marks the start of the lunar calendar and is observed in many cultures as a time of transition between years. The Chinese zodiac assigns one of twelve animals to each year\, serving as a cultural framework for understanding broad themes associated with that time period. \nThe Year of the Horse\, which begins in 2026\, is traditionally associated with movement\, autonomy\, and outward expression—ideas that parallel creative process and experimentation. \nYou can explore this energy yourself in our relaxed open studio\, creating a movable paper horse you can pose and personalize. As you work\, take a moment to reflect on the year ahead. Materials are provided\, or feel free to bring your own project to enjoy alongside friends and community. \nWhile you’re in the gallery\, be sure to visit ITERATIONS: Rhythm & Reason\, on view through January 31\, 2026\, featuring work by Peter Christian Johnson\, Janice Lessman-Moss\, and Brinsley Tyrrell.

SUMMARY:The Artist's Way 12-Week Creative Cluster Program
DESCRIPTION:*Registration Required via Eventbrite\n \nAbout the Program\nThis 12-week Creative Cluster Program supports participants in recovering and strengthening their creative selves within a supportive\, non-hierarchical community. Using The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron as a shared framework\, participants engage in weekly group gatherings\, small-cluster sharing\, and individual creative practices. \nThe program is designed as a hybrid experience\, with four in-person gatherings and virtual check-ins (optional). This structure allows for meaningful face-to-face connection while maintaining accessibility and flexibility. This is a peer-led\, egalitarian program. There are no accredited teachers—only fellow participants\, including facilitators\, engaging fully in the process. The work itself serves as the guide. Respect\, compassion\, and creative autonomy are central\, and participants are encouraged to honor their own pace and inner guidance while sharing and witnessing within small clusters. \n\nWhat to Expect\nParticipants should be prepared for weekly tasks and independent creative practices throughout the 12 weeks\, including Morning Pages and Artist Dates. The process is private and personal\, emphasizing growth through lived experience rather than critique or feedback. \nParticipants are asked to commit to the full 12-week series. Please review dates carefully before registering. \nSpaces are limited. Last day to register for the program is Friday\, January 16th\, 5PM \n\nIn-Person Program Dates\nThursday\, January 22\, 5:30 – 7PMThursday\, February 19\, 5:30 – 7PMThursday\, March 12\, 5:30 – 7PMThursday\, April 9\, 5:30 – 7PM \n\nAbout the Facilitators\nLaura Naples\nLaura Naples (b. 1979) is an artist based in Hudson\, Ohio. Laura’s work explores the energy of wonder in the natural world and objects shaped by human hands. \nA former graphic designer\, dancer\, and calligraphy artist\, Laura senses the subtleties of form\, rhythm\, and line. \nShe applies diluted acrylic washes to canvas and paper\, allowing water and gravity to diffuse pigments into gradient textures. Contrasts unfold across stances of surrender and intention as she lays gestural marks and tilts the painting’s surface; then\, accents alignments with linework. \nLaura cultivates rituals of meditation\, movement\, and inquiry that are fostered\, infused\, and embodied in her work. \n\nMeaghan Reed\nAs an artist I have long been inspired by the natural organic world growing around me. I am perpetually awed by the complexity of design found in a single bloom and struck with wonder and humility at the narrative of the seasons. These systems around us dance in perfect harmony and are dependent upon their rhythm. Within nature there is a hope and solidity found in consistency and order. There is beauty to be found within the intricacy of design that is contingent upon the delicate arrangement. Vibrant color declares goodness and subtle lines offer peace. The life and growth found within the natural world around us is not directed by a series of accidents or coincidences. There is assurance and stability to be found in its cadence. \nAll of this assures me there is something greater to be claimed in this life. \nWhile they are varied\, elements of nature’s beauty surround us all. It is universal\, global\, vast\, wide\, complete. It is not restricted\, limited or exclusive based on wealth\, status\, age\, gender\, or ethnicity. This extraordinary aesthetic embraces and blankets our world and all are invited to partake in its splendor. My hope as an artist is that in a world that suffers from pain\, loss\, fear\, anxiety\, depression\, division\, and inequality that this literal common ground would be a place to connect\, build relationship and unity despite what can easily separate one human from another. \nAbstracting elements of design from nature is where my process begins. Careful study and consideration is taken for each subject I select. The work is not intended to be an exact replication but a feeble impression of its brilliance and complexity. I’m inspired by form\, line\, color\, and repetition. Layers of paint\, plexi acrylic and wood are used to create a sense of space both physical and visual. Mimicking the natural secrete spaces found in the undergrowth of the forest floor and grassy fields. While wildflowers are full of color variations and delicate lines I am only able to capture a small portion of their adornment\, but it is these tiny details that fuel my concepts and drive me to explore them more closely.

SUMMARY:Campus Wide Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Peg’s invites the community to a campus-wide reception celebrating the opening of two new exhibits Friday\, May 15\, 2026\, from 5–7 PM.  \n25 Years of Impact traces the evolution of a vision first imagined by Peg Morgan and carried forward by those who believe in the power of giving to change lives. Through stories\, images\, and artifacts from the foundation’s history\, the exhibit highlights landmark initiatives\, partnerships\, and the people whose work has expanded access to care\, deepened cultural engagement\, and inspired hope. Visitors are invited to reflect on the enduring impact of philanthropy and to imagine what the next 25 years might hold for a community shaped by generosity and purpose.  \nOpening concurrently\, Eighty-Six Reasons for Asylum Admission: A Domestic Beginning\, a solo show by Ohio porcelain artist Kimberly Chapman\, explores why women were institutionalized in asylums from the mid-nineteenth century through the 1970s. The exhibit confronts the gendered and unequal treatment of these spaces. Constructed in 1825—just decades before the rise of organized feminism—the Baldwin Buss Merino House stands at the threshold of a period when women’s autonomy was tightly controlled\, conditions that could later justify institutionalization. \nVisitors are encouraged to explore the galleries\, connect with artists and program partners\, and reflect on the stories and ideas presented in both exhibits. The evening will include live music\, thoughtful remarks\, and light refreshments.  \nThis event is free and open to the public. \nFree parking is available on city streets and lots throughout the walkable downtown neighborhood of Hudson\, Ohio.
